49ers OC Greg Roman a future head coaching candidate with the Jaguars?

49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman could perhaps be a candidate to fill one of the head coaching vacancies across the league after the Niners season ends. But his chances for one job could become greater depending on how other personnel decisions shake out.

Here’s ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

The Jaguars, however, do not currently have a head coaching vancancy. In his lone season on the job, Mike Mularkey led the Jags to a putrid 2-14 record in 2012. GM Gene Smith got the ax on Monday but Mularkey survived (for now). However, Mularkey’s eventual fate could lay in the hands of Smith’s successor.

Moreover, Roman landing the Jacksonville job is the ultimate speculation right now. It also doesn’t fall under any transitive, if/then properties. Even if Caldwell does get hired as GM, it’s no lock he’ll play the nepotism card and bring in Roman. Also, why’s it assumed they were good roommates? What if they hated being roommates? Maybe Roman always took up all the hot water. Or maybe Caldwell never washed his own dishes. Vital things to always consider when hiring a head coach in the NFL.
