The Giants have avoided arbitration with reigning NL MVP Buster Posey after both sides on Friday agreed to an $8 million deal for next season.
That’s a considerable bump in pay for the catcher, who made $615,000 last season. We cannot confirm whether Posey was blasting this song from his car speakers Friday:
The agreement allows Posey and the Giants to avoid the messy arbitration process, and both sides have indicated that they would like to at some point reach a long-term deal.
This was Posey’s first year eligible for arbitration.
Also reaching one-year deals with the Giants on Friday and avoiding arbitration were OF Hunter Pence ($13.8 million), OF Gregor Blanco ($1.35 million) and RP Jose Mijares ($1.8 million). RP Sergio Romo and IF Joaquin Arias are the only Giants eligible for arbitration who haven’t agreed to terms with the club yet.
