Sharks finalize opening night roster

You may have heard that this chilly sport called hockey came back on Saturday after an over-six month hiatus. The Sharks will begin their season a day late, opening the campaign in Calgary on Sunday.

On Friday the team finalized its 23-man opening night roster:

Forwards (13): Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Michal Handzus, Andrew Desjardins, Patrick Marleau, Ryane Clowe, T.J. Galiardi, James Sheppard, Frazer McLaren, Joe Pavelski, Martin Havlat, Tommy Wingels, Adam Burish

Defensemen (8): Dan Boyle, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Brent Burns, Brad Stuart, Justin Braun, Douglas Murray, Matt Irwin, Nick Petrecki

Goalies (2): Antti Niemi, Thomas Greiss

Injured Reserve (1): Jason Demers

Listed among the actives is defenseman/mountain man Brent Burns, who according to Fear the Fin will not play on Sunday due to injury.

Also to note: the Sharks are looking into the possibility of signing 33-year-old free agent forward Scott Gomez. The two-time former Cup winner worked out for the team in San Jose on Saturday. Both sides will be taking to weekend to discuss if he would be a good addition for the Sharks.
