In the closing moments of the Sharks’ loss to the Blackhawks on Friday, Ryane Clowe retaliated against Chicago forward Andrew Shaw for a questionable hit Shaw laid on Joe Pavelski from behind seconds prior.
Now the NHL is looking into whether Clowe illegally came off the Sharks bench to get into the scrap with Shaw. If the league determines that to be the case, Clowe could face up to a 10-game suspension.
According to Kevin Kurz, Clowe will talk to the league on Monday:
Clowe will have a hearing on Monday. No word yet on if he can play tonight in Dallas. He won’t be made available to comment today. #sjsharks

(UPDATE: Clowe will not play Saturday.)
Cynically speaking, it’s not like that would be a huge blow for the Sharks. Clowe has all but 6 points (0 goals) in 16 games this season. Realistically speaking, however, the Sharks can’t afford right now to lose one of their top six forwards (on paper, at least) with the team amid a painfully ugly slump.
Here’s the video from CSN Chicago’s broadcast. Did Clowe come off the bench on a line change? Tough to decide from this:
Meanwhile, the Kings are stricken with shock after hearing Clowe might have illegally done something from the bench.
