Brent Burns will likely return to the Sharks lineup Tuesday night vs. the Blues after a seven-game absence due to an apparent leg injury. But it won’t be at his typical spot on the blue line. The defenseman reportedly will be starting at forward for Todd McLellan.
Welp, might be safe to say the Sharks have officially gotten desperate.
According to Kevin Kurz and David Pollak, Burns is slated start the game as a right wing on the third line with Scott Gomez and James Sheppard. Burns will probably still see time in a defensive role on the second power play shift.
Here’s Burns on what he can bring up front, via Kurz:
“It’s just going to be a matter of skating and trying to shoot the puck,” he said. “Use my body, and protect the puck. I don’t know, we’ll see.”
Burns earlier in his career while in the Minnesota Wild organization played forward before switching full time to defenseman.
Burns, however, in the handful of games he hasn’t missed due to injury this season, has noticeably struggled on defense. The Sharks’ scoring woes have also been well documented. So, from the team’s perspective regarding this change, why the hell not?
