Fernando Rodriguez reportedly has a torn UCL—ulnar collateral ligament if you’re keeping score at home—in his right elbow and will likely need season-ending Tommy John surgery.
The A’s reliever is apparently seeking a second opinion before going through with surgery, but the writing is pretty much on the wall. The right-hander came out of a game on Monday after throwing just one pitch.
Rodriguez came over from the Astros in the Lowrie-Carter trade last month. The A’s are deep in the bullpen this spring and the injury isn’t a big blow to anybody not named Fernando Rodriguez.
