Sharks GM Doug Wilson in ‘panic mode’?

By now we all know the Sharks’ story this season. Started out the shortened campaign with a blistering 7-0 record. Stumbled to a 5-9-6 record since. As of gametime on Wednesday, they sit eighth in the West.

And with this once-proud franchise barely hanging on to a playoff spot for a second season in a row, Sharks GM Doug Wilson is reportedly in “full panic mode,” which includes shopping some of the team’s underachieving players. Here’s a nugget from Bruce Garrioch’s report:

The San Jose Sharks GM isn’t pleased with the club’s inconsistency and he’s open to all options. The club’s UFA’s — LW Ryane Clowe, C Michael Handzus and D Douglas Murray — are available and sources say Wilson “is in full panic mode.” Murray is being “shopped hard” but one team backed off because of concerns about his conditioning. League executives believe Wilson is frustrated but he often stirs up discussions then doesn’t deal. The Habs, Bruins and Penguins have interest in Clowe.

Although, as Fear the Fin points out, when it comes to these hot rumors, Garrioch is about as credible as a McDonald’s salad. So, take this nugget with a grain of salt. Even still, this gossip was just too sexy to not share with you.
