Punter Shane Lechler, better known as arguably the best and most consistent Raiders player over the last decade of Raiders ineptitude, is a long shot to return to Oakland.
On Thursday, Lechler is scheduled to meet with the Texans. Houston is where Lechler, a Texas native, spends his offseasons.
The Raiders entered free agency last week with 17 unsigned unrestricted free agents, including Lechler. As of Thursday, Oakland has lost six of them—Philip Wheeler (Dolphins), Desmond Bryant (Browns), Brandon Myers (Giants), Mike Goodson (Jets), Matt Shaughnessy (Cardinals) and Mike Mitchell (Panthers)—and re-signed one—Khalif Barnes.
For those wondering, expect former practice squad player Marquette King to handle punting duties in 2013.
