The 49ers reportedly have interest in signing Bears free agent Israel Idonije to bolster the defensive line next season.
Idonije, 32, started 11 games for the Bears last season and had 7.5 sacks (.5 off his career high), playing both end and tackle in Chicago’s 4-3 defense.
More from Matt Barrows:
San Francisco presumably is looking at the 6-6, 275-pounder to play defensive end in its 3-4 scheme. [...] The team’s interest in linemen could signal more platooning along the defensive front than occurred in 2011 and 2012 when the starters – when healthy – played virtually every snap.
