What’s long been expected finally happened on Wednesday when the Raiders officially parted ways with defensive tackle Tommy Kelly:
The Raiders today have released Tommy Kelly. The club appreciates his service, dedication and toughness.

The move reportedly clears up around $5 million in cap room, which for the Raiders is the equivalent of a homeless dude finding a $100 bill laying on the ground.
But the benefit for the team could go beyond salary cap implication. The 32-year-old had a forgettable 2012 season and could be on the decline. In 16 games last season, Kelly had just one sack after having 14.5 total in 2010 and 2011.
Talk about the Raiders severing ties with Kelly on Wednesday began Tuesday night thanks to CBS’ Jason La Canfora.
