Sharks trade Michal Handzus to Blackhawks

While everybody continues to wait in anticipation of a potential Ryane Clowe trade, Sharks GM Doug Wilson pulled off another swap on Monday.

The Sharks sent center Michal Handzus to the Blackhawks in exchange for a 2013 fourth-round draft pick. He reportedly waived his no-trade clause in order for the swap to go through. The draft pick originally belonged to San Jose, which sent it to Chicago in a draft-day trade last year.

It’s really a something-for-nothing trade from the Sharks’ perspective. Outside of shootouts, the Jacob from “Lost” lookalike has been largely ineffective for the team this season. The 36-year-old has just one goal, one assist and a -9 in 28 games. He was a healthy scratch for the previous six games entering Monday’s win over the Canucks.
