The Giants on Monday recalled Brett Pill and his hot bat from Triple-A Fresno.
The first baseman has been off to a terrific start in Fresno, hitting .341, nine home runs and 47 RBI in 32 games. The Giants are hoping Pill can keep that production going for them with the club visiting American League ballparks this week (Toronto) and next (Oakland) and in need of an extra bat. Pill might be one option Bruce Bochy goes with to fill the designated hitter spot.
He replaces outfielder Francisco Peguero, who was called up to the Giants earlier to month to provide insurance for a hobbled Angel Pagan. With Pagan’s hamstring now more cooperative, the Giants can afford to part with an extra outfielder. As a plus, Pill has experience playing left field, if the Giants have an emergency.
