Bruce Bochy said on Friday injured reliever Santiago Casilla, the pitcher formerly known as Jairo Garcia, might have to undergo surgery.
The Giants put Casilla on the DL on Tuesday with a cyst on his knee. Via Steve Corkran:
“That’s a strong possibility, to be honest,” Bochy said of the surgery option. “But we’re still weighing the other options before we go this way.”
The Giants are expected to make a decision after Friday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies.
Surgery would likely keep Casilla out for up to a month, which would be a big loss for the back end of the Giants bullpen. Casilla has a 1.89 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 21 appearances this season.
