Carl Landry opts out of Warriors contract, becomes free agent

Based on a tweet sent out by David Lee early Wednesday afternoon, it sounded like what we expected from Carl Landry this summer regarding his free agency was finally coming true:

And now Marcus Thompson has confirmed the news through Landry’s agent: the Warriors power forward has opted out of the final year of his contract with the Warriors, making him a free agent. Had Landry decided to pick up his option, his final year would have given him $4 million.

This was an easy call for Landry. He was productive in his role as a key reserve for the Warriors last year, averaging 10.8 points and 6 rebounds. Now the power forward has an opportunity to secure a long-term deal for more money. You still can’t rule the Warriors out in re-signing Landry, through, as previously discussed this makes it all the more unlikely they’ll be able to retain both Landry and Jarrett Jack.
