Facing a potent combo of injuries and inexperience at wide receiver, the 49ers on Friday signed two veterans to help out at the position:
@MikeGarafolo: Done deal: WR Austin Collie is signing with the 49ers

Both players worked out for the team before signing. Collie previously worked out for the Niners in June. College football fans may remember Hawkins, who was most recently with the Patriots, from his days with Cal. Laurent Robinson also worked out for the team but was not extended a contract. Let’s hope he at least left with some Gatorade and energy bars.
The 49ers have been hit with a litany of injuries in camp. But here’s a rundown of just the receivers who are currently hurt or have been hurt during the week-plus of training camp thus far:
Michael Crabtree (Achilles)
Mario Manningham (ACL)
Kyle Williams (hamstring)
AJ Jenkins (hamstring)
Kassim Osgood (hamstring)
Quinton Patton (finger)
In theory, Anquan Boldin would be off to the side grinning with more balls potentially heading his way amid all the injuries. But not with somebody like freaking Chad Hall on the other side. It’s only going make his job tougher with defenses paying more attention to him. Collie potentially could help solve that. Provided he doesn’t pick up a concussion walking off the team bus in the morning.
