DJ Hayden out for Raiders preseason opener

Reviews for Raiders rookie cornerback DJ Hayden from training camp have been generally positive, kinda like that new movie with a roided up Matt Damon about Occupy Wall Street in space or something. That’s good considering he was virtually absent for all of the team’s offseason activities after undergoing abdominal surgery related to his near-death injury last fall.

We all will have to wait to see how he does in a game action, however, after the 12th overall pick was ruled out of Friday’s preseason opener against the Cowboys. Hayden has been practicing with a red “no contact” jersey while he still awaits to be medically cleared for full contact after the abdominal surgery. So, news that he’s not going to be playing in the first preseason game isn’t a shock and shouldn’t be seen as a setback.

Dennis Allen stressed that this has nothing to do with Hayden’s heart procedure, which is still pretty scary that needs to even be discussed. Hayden also suffered a hamstring injury in Monday’s practice session but later returned. When you have a blood vessel ripped from your heart, I think you can shake off a hamstring strain.
