Warriors sign Stephen Curry’s brother Seth

Because the Warriors want to sell a few extra tickets in the preseason, they have signed Seth Curry, younger brother to fearless leader Stephen Curry.

Seth went undrafted this year after a decorated career at Duke and has been recovering from a shin injury that kept him out of draft workouts and Summer League.

Marcus Thompson with a rare August appearance:

He chose the Warriors over playing in Barcelona because he figures he has a good shot of earning a roster spot in Golden State’s backcourt. And, even if he doesn’t make the roster, the younger Curry is intrigued by the Warriors’ D-League team in Santa Cruz, which has built a reputation for developing players and getting them into the league.

It’s a non-guaranteed contract, so once final cut day comes in the preseason, Seth is likely out of a job. The roster is already stacked at guard, and, regardless of what he thinks, he’s not beating out the Nemanja Nedovic (guaranteed rookie contract), Toney Douglas (veteran back-up point guard) or Kent Bazemore, who pretty much locked up his roster spot in Summer League, to sit at the end of the Warriors bench this season. So Curry will likely end up toiling in obscurity in Santa Cruz, outside of the occasional call-up when the schedules line up perfectly, in which case he’ll only see scant minutes in garbage time when the fans start chanting his name. It’ll be Jeremy Lin all over again.

Oh, and, in case you’re wondering, Seth will be wearing No. 3.

Anyway, happy birthday, Seth Curry. We look forward to all the times we accidentally call you “Steph.”
